NJ.com. True Jersey: More than 50 kids get new donated bikes at Hamilton’s Bromley Center

Brenda Cusack, grandmother of two children at the CYO Summer Camp at the Hamilton Bromley Neighborhood Civic Center, was patiently waiting to know why she was asked to be there last week.

“I am here to support my grandkids. They told me to come and my daughter checked to see if I am here, and I am. I come to find out what’s going on. That’s the way it should be. They said come, so I am here,” said Cusack. Parents and children were in for a big surprise.

Moments later, camp staffers unveiled 55 brand new bikes with bells and helmets that were sitting under tents outside – one set for each kid.

The Times of Trenton: Shine and Inspire seeks donations to support its pay-it-forward mission of help

Those helped by Shine and Inspire, Inc. have included a high school graduate who couldn’t afford college tuition, a single mother sleeping on an air mattress on her floor and a married mother of five trying to get an apartment to reunite her family.

But the stories don’t end there. The graduate now tutors special needs students at his alma mater, while the two mothers volunteer at the Trenton Crisis Ministry.

Such is the mission of Shine and Inspire, a locally based nonprofit that operates under a pay-it-forward philosophy, according to the organization’s leadership.
